The Big Move:
End of January 2004: 80 liters of white paint don’t really feel at home on the new built walls. Well, me and the paint keep discussing the matter thoroughly.

Many hands are needed in helping the proofing press on its way. Safely arrived at its new home the printing cylinder is put into position - very carefully. The helping friends follow this while waiting for the car rental office to call back. On the 20 km track the transporter forgot that it once had a built-in reverse gear. The only way to make the car move backwards is to push it in front of the door to unload the press and the cutting machine. What a funny joke!
Infact, it wasn’t a joke, the van had broken down completely and was picked up in the early afternoon. This made the whole job not that much easier, to be honest.

The composing frames that came first look somewhat lonesome and so does the workbench. Guenter stands himself on the carpet - don’t they make a nice pair?

Cases are piling up everywhere. Standing matter has arrived safely. The printing and the composing area have grown farely well, the next to come are the buro, the bookbinding place and the little gallery.

The little art nouveau stove is still looking for its place to stay, the cutting machine has already arrived where it is supposed to stand itself, however, the carpet beneath is still missing. So this will be another piece of nice work to do ...

The little table has prepared itself for the third weekend of moving every single bit to come. The big working table still carries the note “unknown” written at the printing office it comes from.

It is the third weekend of February and there are still boxes to drag.

The old desk has made friends with the modern  phone quickly.

Why is nobody giving the dog a warm hug?

The fridge has arrived. The dragon on its door keeps a lookout for no demon growing inside ...

The first work of art being printed in the new studio: the opening exhibitions poster!

What a skye line: This is my stock of paper!

Important books have been sorted on to their shelves.

Hand made books are waiting for clients to come.

Uups - more paper packages! We have been on the move for 4 weeks now, but there are still plasters left.

But even once they’ll be all used up: The scenery outside will still be what it is today. Meadows and fields, the mountain Hohenstaufen making a nice horizon and in the air the little falcon living in the hedge nearby  seeking for dinner.

Yeasterday everything  was nicely sorted and tidy - now look at the mess they made! And there is hardly one week left before this place is about to open.

This is supposed to be the composer’s working area.

These platen machines are hand driven. Actually, if you want to move them by hand you’ll find out that the term ‘hand driven’ should not be taken too literally.

This is the gallery. Well, it want’s to become a gallery - if somebody can arrange for the hanging system being mounted to the wall.

And a cutting machine is made for cutting paper and boards, not for storing rolls of bookbinding cloth. Well, it’ll be fine some time. When did we want to open this studio?

In the end we got over another weekend on the move. The palms finally got a lift, they look a bit thirsty after not having been watered for weight reasons during the last few weeks.

Now things have to be sorted in. The toilet has become the home of HAP Grieshaber’s Smiling Printer Artist. The studio’s own printer artist will start smiling only after she’s survived the opening.

Tomorrow this place is to open. Feels like yesterday we still had a whole week. The windows have to be cleaned. At last: the sink is on duty. But the pictures still want their hanging system.

The drill has broken down - well we’re on the move, that’ll be the reason why. We assume the drill must have envied that rented van since the first day of the move. Has anybody checked the drain of the sink?

If anybody had thought of filling up the samovar, we could have a nice cup of tea now. A shame, nobody has. Which of the tablecloths shall we choose? It’s gone dark outside - does anybody care?

Mummy has gone out - when is she coming back to me?
