away

This book came into being while my presses + type are a six hours’ drive away from where I have moved to recently. This is a temporary separation, but as for now I do not know how long it will last. However, away-ness is everywhere. It will affect everybody. It need not be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It can happen again and again for various reasons and in all sorts of circumstances. People have to go away for an education, for a job, to avoid starving, to get away from war or genocide. Some cases of away-ness are more severe than others. Away-ness need not be temporary, it can be for ever.

In this book the texts are taken from dictionaries of the English language explaining the different use and meaning of away. Each text is accompanied by one photograph. Each book comes with a unique set of 12 photographs making each copy a one-off. All text is handset from metal and wood type. Text passages in the book are all set from optima. For the cover various type faces have been used.
